- >an ad in the local newspaper that advertised Zoom 28.8 for $190

- GW> This is a matter of much debate. USR likes to brag about a study that
- GW> rated the Sportster the best modem in the test.
-
- Which used Sportster latest firmware but just one month _before_ Zoom

-
- Not sure what you mean by "the modulation portion" but all Zoom ROM
- updates are FREE. Ver1.309 for example fixed the dropping to fax when
- called with V8 CI tone on, fixed the rate misnegotiation bug on 3429
- symbol rate calls, adn added loadsa other goodies...

-
- GW> As far as I know, Rockwell has not yet released its 33.6 chipset into
- GW> production. I do not know which, if any at all, Rockwell-based modems
- GW> will be 33.6 upgradable. This is one advantage of the superior
- GW> USR design.
-
- Only if you have the line to support 33k6. 31k2 is more realistic. If a
- user (coz of lines) only gets 28k8 rarely then paying a premium for V34+
- is a waste
